Dr. Derek Rodrigues passed his University of Oxford examination boards before entering St Mary’s Hospital Medical School. He received his M.D. degree from the University of London. He did post graduate work in the UK before completing his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at UCLA. He received a Clinical Investigator Award from the American Heart Association and presented his research at national meetings. He joined Eastside Cardiology Associates in 1990. He has served as Director of Cardiology Services at Evergreen Hospital. He received subspecialist training in the management of cardiac arrhythmias and is Board Certified in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society. He started the Electrophysiology program at Overlake Hospital in 1997, which included the ability to diagnose and curatively treat complex cardiac arrhythmias. In 2001, this also included the catheter ablation of Atrial Fibrillation and he has completed over 1,000 atrial fibrillation ablation procedures. He has been involved in research into managment of arrhythmias and heart failure with implantable defibrillators and pacemakers. He is married to a physician and he and his wife have two sons: One is a Software engineer currently working for the AI Division at Microsoft and the oldest is a physician in a Neurosurgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital.
He and his wife are involved in a number of organizations and have had a particular passion for Agros International (provide web link), which is a Seattle-based organization which helps poor rural communities in Central America. However they also enjoy everything this beautiful part of the world has to offer, especially hiking, backpacking and skiing every chance they get!
